When I arrived at Uppurui-bana about 6 a.m. this morning, there was one lure fisherman at the fishing spot. He told me that he had not received any response from fish on his jigs. The water was almost glassy calm, and I felt the sea was too quiet for any fishing. I threw my favorite lures from Ohbira and then from the tip of Nakabasan. There was no fish in the sea at all. Shortly after I returned to Ohbira, the lure fisherman shouted to me. I noticed him saying, “Dolphins!” Then, a few dolphins came up to the surface just in front of us. They were pretty close to the shore. The quietness of the sea must have been partly due to the dolphins. When they are around, fish get scared and disappear.
（今朝、午前６時頃に十六島鼻に到着すると、釣り場には一人のルアー釣り師の姿がありました。彼の話では、ジグには魚からの反応がないとのこと。水面はほとんど鏡のように静かで、釣りにはあまりにも穏やかすぎると感じました。私は、お気に入りのルアーを大平から投げ、次に中ばさんの先端から投げました。しかし海にはまったく魚がいません。大平に戻ってきて間もなく、ルアー釣り師が私に向かって叫びました。彼は 「イルカ！」と言っているのでした。すると、私たちの目の前で、数頭のイルカが水面に浮上したのです。かなり岸の近くでした。海が静かなのは、イルカのせいでもあったに違いありません。イルカがいると、魚は怖がって姿を消してしまうのです。）
