This afternoon I kept throwing my favorite lures for a longer time than I had expected. I had planned to fish at the shore of Lake Shinji for at most 30 minutes, but I ended up staying there for 90 minutes. When I started throwing my lure, of course I tried to catch a big Japanese sea bass. However, when about 10 minutes passed, I already tried to catch a completely different target. The knot tying the main line to the leader had gotten unraveled, and my Tsunami TS Popper became free. It just floated on water. Fortunately the severed lure was within my casting distance. I started trying to catch the lure with another lure. It was not easy. I felt I might have to swim in the lake to retrieve the lure, remembering I had created a song last year about a guy swimming in Lake Shinji. When I was about to give up catching the lure with another lure (in other words, when I was about to take off my clothes), the miracle happened at last. My Roberts Ranger caught my Tsunami TS Popper. I might have been even happier than when I caught a fish. I don’t like to leave any artificial item in nature.
（今日の午後、私はお気に入りのルアーを予想以上に長い時間、投げ続けたのでした。宍道湖畔でせいぜい30分程度釣るつもりでしたが、90分も留まることになってしまったのです。ルアーを投げ始めたときは、もちろん大型のスズキを狙っていました。しかし、10分ほど経過した時、私は既にまったく別のターゲットを狙っていたのです。道糸とリーダーを結ぶノットがほどけてしまい、ツナミのTSポッパーが自由の身となり、水に浮いているのでした。切り離されたそのルアーは、幸いなことに私のキャスティング距離内で浮いていました。私はそのルアーを、別のルアーで釣ろうと試みました。それは簡単なことではありませんでした。去年、宍道湖で泳ぐ男についての歌を作ったことを思い出しながら、これはもはや、泳がないとルアーを回収できないかもしれないと思いました。ルアーでルアーを釣るのをあきらめかけたその時（つまり、今にも服を脱ぎかけていたその時）、ついに奇跡が起きました。ロバーツ・レンジャーが、ついにツナミのTSポッパーをキャッチしたのです。私は、魚が釣れた時よりも嬉しかったかもしれません。人工物を自然の中に残してしまうのは好きではないのです。）
