The lake was choppy when I drove on the road along the shore in the morning, but it had become calmer before I started throwing my lures about 3 p.m. The calm surface and the favorable wind created a great opportunity for me to use an American pencil popper the way American fishermen do. So I took out a spinning reel (PENN Torque 5), instead of of a conventional reel. I can maneuver an American pencil popper more comfortably with a spinning reel. I used Guppy Lure’s Jobo Jr., one of American pencil poppers I own. My Jobo Jr. made enticing splashes on the surface, but no fish got intrigued enough. Not only I but also other two regular lure fishermen seemed out of luck this afternoon.
（朝、湖畔の道路を車で走っている時には、湖は波立っていましたが、午後３時頃にルアーを投げ始める前には、既に穏やかになっていました。穏やかな湖面に追い風が吹いており、アメリカのペンシル・ポッパーをアメリカの釣り師の方法で使うのに最適な機会となっていました。そこで、両軸リールではなく、スピニングリール（PENNトルク５）を持ち出しました。アメリカのペンシル・ポッパーを操作するには、スピニングリールの方が便利なのです。使用したのは、私がもっているアメリカ製ペンシル・ポッパーの一つ、グッピールアーのジョボ Jr.。ジョボ Jr.は水面に魅力的な水しぶきを上げたものの、魚の興味を引くことはできませんでした。私だけでなく、他の２人の常連ルアー釣り師も、今日の午後は運に恵まれなかったようです。）
