In my experience, during the so-called “Konoshiro-pattern,” the Japanese sea bass are as active in the daytime as they are at sunrise or sunset. I believe almost all of my catches in May and June at Lake Shinji were in the daytime. So usually I don’t go fishing at the lake early in the morning, but I did so today. I started throwing my lures toward the vast surface about 5 a.m. and quit it before 6 a.m. when the fleet of fishing boats collecting Shijimi clams appeared. The Japanese sea bass are very tasty fish if you treat the fresh one properly. Last night my mother hinted that she wanted to eat it. So I went fishing this early morning.
