(No. 510) No Fish at Saruwatari in Nonami (野波の猿渡にて釣果なし)

I planned to try Maruiwa in Owashi this morning, but I had to give up the plan when I arrived at the parking space for the fishing spot about 6 a.m. To my surprise, there were already five cars at the parking space. I had to go to Saruwatari in Nonami instead. It is much more exhausting to get to Saruwatari than to Maruiwa. That might be the reason why I found no car when I arrived at the parking space along Cherry Road. After I successfully jumped over the narrow channel to reach Saruwatari, I found the swell around it much stronger than I had expected. I started fishing about 6:30 a.m. and had to stop it only 1 hour later. I was afraid that the swell would get too strong for me to jump over the channel and I would be left high and dry at Saruwatari.

（今朝は大芦の丸岩で釣る予定だったのですが、午前６時頃にその駐車スペースに到着してみると、当初の計画はあきらめざるを得ませんでした。驚いたことに、既に５台の車が駐められているのでした。私は代わりに、野波の猿渡へ行かざるを得ませんでした。丸岩よりも猿渡に行く方がずっと疲れます。チェリーロード沿いの駐車スペースに１台の車も見当たらなかったのは、それが理由かもしれません。狭い水道を飛び越え、無事に猿渡に到達してから、その周囲のうねりが、思ったよりもずっと強いことに気づきました。私は午前６時半頃から釣り始めましたが、わずか１時間後には納竿せざるを得ませんでした。うねりがさらに強まって水道を飛び越えることができなくなり、猿渡に取り残されるのを恐れたのです。）

(No. 509) No Fish at Naka-bana in Nonami (野波の中鼻にて釣果なし)

The weather forecast said that the height of waves would be 1.5 meters this morning. I decided to avoid Saruwatari in Nonami, considering the possibility that the waves would prevent me from jumping over the narrow channel to reach it. Instead, I went to Naka-bana, a nearby fishing spot which is almost next to Saruwatari but requires you to take the completely different route from the shared parking space. As I had done at Saruwatari yesterday, I kept casting my favorite lures from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. I was out of luck again.

（天気予報によると、今朝の波の高さは1.5メートルになるとのことでした。私は、野波の猿渡へ行くのは控えることにしました。そこへ行くために飛び越す必要のある狭い水道を、波のせいで、飛び越せないのではないかと考えたのです。代わりに私は、猿渡のほとんど隣にありながら、共有の駐車スペースからは全く別の道を進んで行かねばならない最寄りの釣り場、中鼻へ行きました。昨日の猿渡と同様、午前７時から９時まで、私はお気に入りのルアーを投げ続けました。しかし、またもや運に見放されてしまいました。）

(No. 508) No Fish at Saruwatari in Nonami (野波の猿渡にて釣果なし)

This morning I was at Saruwatari in Nonami and kept casting my usual American lures from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. without losing any concentration. Nothing happened at all. The sea was calm and seemed pretty empty. Where was my yellowtail amberjack? I couldn’t find it. My American lures and I were so clueless.

（今朝の私は、野波の猿渡におり、午前７時から９時まで、集中力を切らすことなく、いつものアメリカのルアーを投げ続けました。全く何も起きませんでした。海は穏やかで、そして、相当に空っぽなようでした。私のヒラマサはどこにいるのでしょう？　見つけることができません。アメリカのルアーと私は、とても無力です。）

(No. 507) No Fish at Sakitaka-hana and Taka-hana in Sanami (佐波の先高鼻と高鼻にて釣果なし)

This morning I originally intended to go to Saruwatari or Naka-bana in Nonami. However, on my way to the parking space along Cherry Road, I saw the sea a bit too choppy for me to be comfortable at either fishing spot. So I changed my mind at the last moment when I arrived at the parking space. I drove back toward Sanami Harbor and tried Sakitaka-hana and Taka-hana in Sanami. I kept casting my favorite lures tenaciously from 6:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., but unfortunately nothing happened.

（今朝は、もともと、野波の猿渡か中鼻に行くつもりでした。しかし、チェリーロード沿いの駐車スペースに向かう途中で見えた海は、どちらの釣り場へ行くにせよ、快適な釣りをするには少し波が高すぎるようでした。そこで私は、駐車スペースに到着した土壇場になって考えを変えました。佐波港の方へ引き返し、佐波の先高鼻と高鼻で釣りました。午前６時45分から９時まで粘り強くお気に入りのルアーを投げましたが、あいにく何も起きませんでした。）

(No. 506) No Fish at Naka-bana in Nonami (野波の中鼻にて釣果なし)

I am getting familiar with the woods that you need to walk through in order to reach Naka-bana in Nonami. I used to describe the woods as evil, but now I can’t. I have discovered some interesting things in the woods. 4 days ago I saw a beautiful Japanese keelback, one of non-venomous snakes in Japan, and this morning I found accumulated droppings left by a small animal such as a badger or raccoon dog. I did not catch any fish at Naka-bana this morning, but I was satisfied with just walking in the woods that created opportunities of such encounters with animals.

（野波の中鼻へ行くために通過する必要のある林に、だんだんと馴染んできています。以前は「邪悪な」と形容していた林ですが、今はもうそんなふうには言えません。林の中でいろいろ面白いものを発見しているからです。４日前には、日本にいる無毒の蛇の一種、美しいヒバカリを目撃し、今朝は、アナグマかタヌキのような小動物による「ため糞」を見つけたのです。今朝、中鼻では魚は何も釣れませんでしたが、動物とのこうした遭遇の機会を作ってくれる林の中を歩くだけで満足できました。）

(No. 505) No Fish at Saruwatari in Nonami (野波の猿渡にて釣果なし)

This morning I took one of my fishing buddies to Saruwatari in Nonami. He is also a reader of this blog with whom I recently became acquainted. Fortunately, the condition of the sea had drastically changed since yesterday. It was very calm, and there was no dangerous swell at all. He said he had wanted to try Saruwatari for a long time. So, the mere fact that he safely reached the fishing spot and cast his lures satisfied both of us considerably, although neither his Japanese lures nor my American lures could draw any action from any fish.

（今朝は、私の釣り友達の一人を、野波の猿渡に案内しました。彼は、私が最近知り合いになった、このブログの読者でもあります。幸運なことに、海の状況は、昨日から大きく変わっていました。とても穏やかで、危険なうねりは全くありません。彼は、長い間、猿渡で釣りをしてみたかったそうです。ですので、彼が無事に猿渡に到達し、ルアーを投げたという事実だけで、私たちのどちらもかなり満足しました。彼が使う日本のルアーに対しても、そして私が使うアメリカのルアーに対しても、魚からの反応は全くなかったにも関わらず。）

(No. 504) No Fish at Naka-bana in Nonami (野波の中鼻にて釣果なし)

As I reported yesterday, I finally solved the mystery of the evil woods and found the right path to Naka-bana in Nonami. This morning I tried Naka-bana although I suspected the swell was probably too strong to enjoy a comfortable fishing. From Naka-bana I saw Saruwatari, my favorite fishing spot in the area, constantly attacked by the strong swell. Naka-bana was less vulnerable to the swell, but still I had to be extremely careful. I stayed at Naka-bana for 2 hours and did my best, but nothing exciting happened to me this morning except when I had a nice chat with a friendly lure fisherman at the parking space along Cherry Road after I quit fishing.

（昨日報告した通り、ついに私はあの邪悪な林の謎を解明し、野波の中鼻に至る正しい道を見出しました。今朝は、おそらくうねりが強すぎて快適な釣りはできないだろうと思ってはいたものの、中鼻を試してみました。この地域で一番好きな釣り場である猿渡が、強いうねりの襲撃を常に受けているのが、中鼻から見えました。中鼻は、猿渡ほどは、うねりの攻撃に対し脆弱ではありませんでしたが、それでも私は極度に警戒する必要がありました。私は中鼻に２時間ほど滞在し、全力を尽くしましたが、今朝は何も刺激的なことは起きませんでした。納竿後、チェリーロード沿いの駐車スペースで、友好的なルアー釣り師と楽しい会話をした時を除いて。）

(No. 503) Mystery of Evil Woods Solved but Rucksack Still Missing (邪悪な林の謎は解けるもリュックサックは依然行方不明)

You may remember that I got almost lost twice in the woods when I tried to reach Naka-bana in Nonami last September (No. 479 and 483). This morning I tried to take my revenge on the evil woods. Originally I had planned to go to Saruwatari again this morning, but I had to give up the plan when I saw the sea around Susumi Bay in Owashi on my way to Saruwatari. The swell was too strong. So I decided to explore the woods instead of fishing.

（先の９月、野波の中鼻に行こうとした私が、林の中で２回も遭難しかけてしまったことを、覚えてらっしゃるかもしれません（No. 479と483）。今朝、私は、この邪悪な林へのリベンジを試みました。もともと今朝は、また猿渡に行くつもりだったのです。しかし猿渡へ向かう途中、大芦の須々海湾周辺の海を見た時に、その計画は断念せざるを得ませんでした。うねりが強すぎたのです。そこで私は、釣りではなく、林の探検をすることにしました。）

In the woods the plants had started losing their leaves, so it was easier to find the right path leading to Naka-bana. I tied several pieces of red tape to a tree at the treacherous fork, where you have to turn right to reach Naka-bana. After securing how to get to the fishing spot, I returned to the fork and took the another path. I started a search and rescue operation for my lost rucksack. First I reached the cliff overlooking the sea and then turned back, as I had done last September. I searched for the rucksack while slowly climbing up the slope. I did my best but couldn’t find it anywhere.

（林の中では、木々の落葉が始まっていたので、中鼻へ行く正しい道を見つけるのは容易でした。中鼻へ行くためには右折しなければならない厄介な分岐点に立つ木に、いくつか赤いテープを貼りました。中鼻へ行く道筋を確認してから、私は分岐点に戻り、もう一つの道を行きました。失われたリュックサックの捜索救助活動を開始したのです。まず、先の９月と同様に、海を見下ろす崖まで行き、そこで引き返しました。斜面をゆっくりと登りながら、リュックサックを探しました。ベストを尽くしましたが、どこにも見つかりませんでした。）
