I feel the number of Japanese black porgies (chinu in Japanese) in Lake Shinji has been steadily increasing, whereas that of Japanese sea bass steadily decreasing. For the last few years, whenever I witnessed bait fishermen catching the black porgies, their catches has been very good. So I am interested in catching the fish on my lures, but the thing is, plugs used for the chinu fishing seem much smaller than my big American plugs, most of which are designed for the striped bass fishing. When I was wondering if I should buy smaller American plugs, I remembered that two plugs T-san had gave me two years ago might be small enough. T-san is one of my fishing buddies, whom I sometimes see in Nonami. One of the two plugs, Berkley Power Popper, looks especially good for the chinu fishing. Now I am wondering how I can cast such a lightweight (1/4 oz) popper with my heavy tackle. I might use a bigger popper as a launcher and tie the small popper to it with 1 to 2 meter mono line.
