Nine days ago I got groggy in the Ketakake Peninsula in Izumo City. I cut branches along the trail leading to Ohbira, one of fishing spots in the peninsula, but I got too fatigued to follow through my original plans. I had ambitiously intended to cut all obstructing branches in the whole peninsula, and of course I failed. I revisited the peninsula today with two strong helpers, one of which was an old classmate of mine and the other was a much newer friend of mine, who is about 20 years younger than the old classmate and me. Cutting branches, we slowly moved forward beyond Ohbira and managed to clear the trail leading to Ji-no-kujira, the most western tip of the peninsula. Thanks to the help from two of my good friends, I wasn’t too fatigued. So I decided to try a little bit of fishing around Ji-no-kujira. The crosswind was blowing so hard that it was not easy to throw my popper, but I nervously waited for a strike that I felt could happen at any moment thanks to the choppy surface and seagulls hovering above. I had to save enough energy to safely return to my car, so I didn’t do much fishing, but I needed only a few casts to be completely refreshed.
（９日前、出雲市の桁掛半島で私はふらふらになってしまいました。半島の釣り場の一つ、「大びら」へと続く小道沿いの枝を刈ったのですが、疲れ過ぎてしまって、当初の計画を完遂できなかったのです。当初の計画とは、半島の全域に渡って、邪魔になる枝のすべてを刈るという野心的なものだったのですが、そんな計画は、もちろん、失敗して当然なのでした。今日は、二人の力強い助っ人と共に半島を再訪しました。一人は、私の昔の同級生であり、もう一人は、その同級生や私よりもほぼ20歳若い、ずっと新しい友人です。私たちは、枝を刈りながら、「大びら」を越えてゆっくりと進み、半島の最西端、「地の鯨」への道を切り開くことができました。二人の良い友の助けのおかげで、それほど疲れることもありませんでした。そこで、「地の鯨」周辺で少し釣りをしてみることにしました。横風がとても強く、ポッパーを投げるのは容易ではありませんでしたが、波立った水面と上空を舞うカモメのせいで、いつ強烈なストライクが来るか分からない緊張感がありました。車に戻るための体力を温存する必要があったので、あまり釣りはできなかったのですが、ほんの数投しただけで、まったく爽快な気分になりました。）
