After living in the United States for 15 years, I came back to my hometown Matsue, a small city in the western part of Japan, in November 2014. I imposed a simple rule on myself. Use only American saltwater lures for at least one year and report what they catch...... When a year had passed since then, I decided not to lift this ridiculous restriction.

(No. 515) No Fish at Saruwatari in Nonami

I was followed by a black car on Cherry Road in Nonami when I was on my way to Saruwatari this morning. I wanted to fish from Saruwatari if it was available, but I was willing to give it up if other fishermen wanted it. When I stopped my car around the entry point for Saruwatari, the black car just passed me by. Short while later, when I was about to climb down the slope toward the fishing spot, an apparently same black car came back. I hoped that the driver would stop the car and talk to me. I was willing to go to Safuki-bana if the driver wanted to try Saruwatari. However, the driver, who looked much younger than me, gave me a quick glance and passed me by again. So I started climbing down the slope with some strange frustration.
The sea was even calmer than yesterday. It was super calm. Baitfish were plenty around Saruwatari, and there were occasional boils on the surface. Some bigger fish vigorously chased the baitfish, but nothing happened to my American lures even when I cast them toward inside one of the boils. Chased by the predatory fish, some of the baitfish got stranded on the rocks. In order to make a size comparison with my lures, I took a picture of the baitfish along with one of my lures. My lures were much larger than the baitfish. Probably that’s why no predator attacked my lures. In order to get rid of my increased frustration, I took a kind of artistic picture of a chain of my lures.
