According to the weather forecast, the waves were too high this morning for me to try my usual fishing spots, such as Saruwatari in Nonami or Maruiwa in Owashi. So I decided to explore a route to a fishing spot that I had not been to before. I chose Safuki-bana in Nonami. According to the very useful “Sanin Fishing Spot Guidebook,” it is one of the most exhausting fishing spots to reach in Nonami. The guidebook was correct. Getting to the fishing spot was not only exhausting but also dangerous, but I enjoyed a lot. Unfortunately, due to the strong swell, I could not reach Safuki-bana but got as close to it as possible. From a nearby safe rock, I was able to cast my lures. The Guppy Lure’s Jobo Junior (2.75 oz.), one of my favorite pencil poppers, drew a splashy strike, and the fish was hooked. First I thought it was a Japanese sea bass, but actually it was a medium-sized yellowtail amberjack. The vivid yellow flash in the water remained on my mind for a while after the fish came off just below my feet.
