(No. 1350) No Fish at Known/Unknown Spot in Lake Nakaumi (未知かつ既知の中海の釣り場にて釣果なし)

I don’t think I have been particularly busy since my last post, but somehow I was not able to go fishing. I had to do some household chores and community activities. The same was true this morning. I was asked to take my mother to one of my aunts’ place. Fortunately, her place is very close to the shore of Lake Nakaumi. So I enjoyed a bit of fishing while my mother was chatting with my aunt. I have known of the spot, but I don’t know what it is called as a fishing spot. Anyway I enjoyed throwing my favorite plugs. There were plenty of small gobies (“Gorincha” in our dialect) in the shallow.

（前回の投稿以降、特に忙しいというわけではなかったのですが、なぜか釣りには行けませんでした。家事や地域での活動を行わねばならなかったのです。今朝もそうでした。母を叔母の家に連れて行くように頼まれたのです。幸い、叔母の家は中海のすぐそばにあるので、母が叔母と話している間、少し釣りを楽しみました。その場所のことは知っていましたが、釣り場として何と呼ばれているのかは知りません。とにかく、お気に入りのプラグを投げて、楽しみました。浅瀬には小さなハゼ科の魚（こちらの方言では「ゴリンチャ」）がたくさんいました。）

(No. 1349) A Few Good News at Kurauchi Bay (倉内湾にていくつか良いニュースあり)

The first good news is that the signboard I recently attached to the end of the supportive rope might have worked. It says, “Don’t throw cigarette butts away. Don’t litter,” and today I didn’t found any cigarette butts left at Kurauchi Bay. Fishermen who used to casually throw them away might have read the signboard. The second good news is that I successfully retrieved a lost fishing rig from the bay. As soon as I started throwing my lures this afternoon, I noticed a pink small ball floating on the surface. It didn’t change its location at all. Which means, it must be a float tied to a fishing line, which was stuck at a submerged rock or something. I jumped into the bay with pliers and successfully retrieved the whole rig without leaving anything behind. I am going to keep the rig for a few days. If, by any chance, you are the owner of the rig, you can contact me. I would give it back to you. The third good news is that fish in the bay were all lethargic today. No fish responded to my lures. You may be wondering why this is a good news. Of course, this is a good news. Because I am writing this post from the viewpoint of “non-fishing,” which is certainly my hobby. Only if I decide to write this post from the viewpoint of “fishing,” which is very likely your hobby, can the third one be a bad news.

（１つ目の良いニュースは、先日、補助ロープの先端に取り付けた看板が効果を発揮したかもしれないということです。看板には「タバコをポイ捨てしないでね。ゴミも捨てないで」と書いてあるのですが、今日、倉内湾には吸殻が全く落ちていませんでした。いつも気軽に吸殻を捨てていた釣り人たちが、あの看板を見てくれたのかもしれません。２つ目の良いニュースは、湾内で失われた仕掛けを、無事に回収できたことです。今日の午後、ルアーを投げ始めるやいなや、私は、水面にピンク色の小さな玉が浮かんでいるのに気づきました。それは、全く位置を変えませんでした。ということはそれは、釣り糸に結ばれたウキであり、海中の岩か何かに引っかかっているのです。私はペンチを持って湾に飛び込み、その仕掛けを全て、何も後に残すことなく回収しました。この仕掛けは、数日間保管しておくつもりです。もしも万が一、あなたがこの仕掛けの持ち主であったら、ご連絡ください。お返ししますよ。 ３つ目の良いニュースは、湾内の魚が皆、無気力であったということです。ルアーに反応する魚は全くいませんでした。なぜこれが良いニュースなのか、あなたは不思議に思われるかもしれません。もちろん、これは良いニュースなのです。なぜなら私は、この投稿を、私の趣味である「無魚釣り」の観点から書いているからです。おそらく皆さんの趣味であるだろう「魚釣り」の観点から書くことにした時のみ、３つ目のは悪いニュースになるのです。）

(No. 1348) Consecutively No Fish at Saruwatari in Nonami (野波の猿渡にて引き続き釣果なし)

Today’s morning glow was not as beautiful as yesterday’s but apparently beautiful enough to distract fish from focusing on my fast-moving lures. Nothing has happened at Saruwatari for two consecutive days. There was not even one bite. I got tired both mentally and physically. On my way back to my car at the parking space, climbing the steep slope, I realized how much the weight of a reel in my backpack could affect the degree of my fatigue. These days I’ve used the PENN Battle III 4000HS, which weighs 364 grams. Before that, I had used the PENN 706Z, which weighs 635 grams. The difference is 271 grams, and the lightness of 4000HS alleviated my fatigue significantly especially under the extreme heat wave. I was not very interested in lighter smaller reels before, but now I am. This is another unexpected effect of the ongoing climate change.

（今日の朝焼けは、昨日ほど美しくはありませんでしたが、それでも、素早く動く私のルアーに対する関心を、魚から奪うほどには美しかったようです。２日続けて、猿渡では何も起きておらず、バイトすら１回もありません。私は心身ともに疲れ果てました。駐車スペースに残した車に戻るため、急な坂道を登っている時、バックパックに収納したリールの重さが疲労度に大きく影響することを痛感しました。最近の私は、PENNのバトルIII 4000HS（364グラム）を使っていますが、それ以前は、PENN 706Z（635グラム）を使っていました。その差は271グラムです。4000HSの軽さのおかげで、特にこの異常な猛暑の中、私の疲労感は大幅に軽減されました。私はこれまで、小型の軽いリールにはあまり興味がなかったのですが、今は興味が湧いています。これもまた、気候変動がもたらした予期せぬ影響でしょう。）

(No. 1347) Too Beautiful Morning Glow at Saruwatari in Nonami (野波の猿渡にて美し過ぎる朝焼け)

Isn’t it beautiful? It was slightly after daybreak when I arrived at the parking space for Saruwatari this morning. I got stunned at the beauty of the morning glow. Even 15 minutes or so later, when I reached the tip of Saruwatari, the beauty had not diminished. I am sure not only I but also all fish in the sea were stupefied with the sheer beauty created by the light and the shade of nature. The fish should have responded to my smaller lures which I retrieved as fast as possible, but they must have looked only at the morning glow.
