I was in Mie Prefecture yesterday and now I am in Wakayama Prefecture. The annual book discussion event, where a few of my old university classmates and I get together somewhere in Japan once a year and discuss one or two designated books, has been privately underway since yesterday. This year’s books are all about Kumano in the Kii Peninsula, one of the most mystical regions in Japan. Last night we were in Toshijima Island in Mie Prefecture. Before the discussion started, I managed to sneak into one of fishing harbors in the island. Although I made only several casts and nothing happened, it was exciting to find and try a completely unfamiliar fishing spot with favorite lures.
（昨日は三重県にいて、今は和歌山県にいます。大学時代の同級生数人と一緒に、毎年、日本のどこかに集い、定められた本１、２冊について議論する恒例の私的な読書会が、昨日から進行中なのです。今年選ばれたのは、日本を代表する神秘的な場所の一つ、紀伊半島の熊野に関する本です。昨夜、私たちが滞在したのは三重県の答志島でした。議論が開始される前、私は島の漁港の一つに潜り込むことに成功しました。ほんの数投しかできませんでしたし、何も起きませんでしたが、完全に未知の釣り場を見つけ、お気に入りのルアーでその場所を試してみるのはドキドキします。）
