This morning one of my old classmates and I went to Mihonoseki Harbor, which I had not visited for several years. We got surprised when we arrived at the harbor about 7 a.m. A total of eight lure fishermen were already casting their metal jigs toward the outside of the harbor. Apparently they were trying to catch the Japanese Spanish mackerel. Our expectations got elevated. The presence of a large number of fishermen in the early morning should mean that they have caught a large number of fish recently. However, our expectations got lessened rather shortly. The response from the fish seemed very sporadic. Not only we but also most of other fishermen did not catch any fish. After fishing at the harbor in vain until about 10 a.m., we drove to Ui Harbor. Nothing happened there, either.
（今朝は、昔の同級生と一緒に美保関港へ行きました。私がこの港を訪れるのは数年ぶりとなります。午前７時頃に到着した私たちは驚きました。合計８人ものルアー釣り師が、港の外側へ向かって、既にメタルジグを投げているのです。見たところ、彼らはサワラを狙っているようです。私たちの期待は高まりました。早朝に多くの釣り人の姿があるということは、最近の釣果の良さを意味するはずだからです。しかし私たちの期待は、かなり早く、しぼみました。魚からの反応は、どうやらとても散発的なようです。私たちだけでなく、他のほとんどの釣り人にも、魚は釣れません。私たちは午前10時頃までその港で成果なく釣りをし、それから宇井港へ行きました。そこでもまた、何も起きませんでした。）
