This morning I could not stay long at a fishing spot due to my translation assignment scheduled for later in the morning. So I went to Maruiwa in Owashi. The access to Maruiwa is easier than that to other fishing spots such as Saruwatari in Nonami. The sea around Maruiwa was choppy, and there was a swell. Some birds were circling around above the sea. It was about 8 a.m. I felt a very strong strike on my Hopkins No=Eql. The strike was so strong that first I thought it was a big yellowtail amberjack, but once the fish got hooked it did not put up much resistance. Still, it was a beautiful Japanese sea bass of 65 cm (26 in.) long.
