This morning I planned to go to Saruwatari in Nonami, but I had to change the plan due to a potential danger from the strong swell. Instead, I drove to Sanami Harbor in order to try Sakitaka-hana. At the harbor there were three friendly fishermen, and they asked me how to get to Sakitaka-hana from the harbor. They said that they had tried to get there once but failed. So I guided one of them through the woods and to Sakitaka-hana. My guidance was so appreciated that I felt as if I had done a great job and could go home with great satisfaction even without doing any fishing.
（今朝は、野波の猿渡へ行くつもりでしたが、うねりが強くて危険そうだったので、計画を変更する必要がありました。代わりに先高鼻で釣るために、私は佐波港へと行きました。佐波港には、愛想の良い３人の釣り人がいて、彼らは私に、港から先高鼻への行き方を尋ねるのでした。彼らは以前、そこへ行こうとしたものの、失敗してしまったそうなのです。そこで私は、彼らのうちの１人を伴い、林を通って、先高鼻まで行きました。私の案内はとても感謝されたので、私は自分が何か偉大な仕事を成し遂げたような気がし、全く釣りをしなくても十分に満足したまま帰宅できそうな気分になりました。）
After making several casts of my favorite lures in vain, I started an experiment. I love old PENN conventional reels such as Squidder. However, I had not come up with any realistic application of those powerful but slow retrieving reels in the modern lure fishing. One idea flashed into my mind yesterday. How about retrieving one of the large spinners? I had bought some large spinners for pike/muskie fishing when I was in Stockholm on a business trip. In combination with a heavy sinker, I might cast the spinner far enough and let it sink to the bottom. I might catch a big bottom-dwelling fish such as the longtooth grouper. That was the idea. As a result of today’s experiment, I felt confident about it.
（お気に入りのルアーを成果なく数投した後、私は実験を開始しました。私は、PENNの古い両軸リール、例えばスクイダーが好きです。しかし、パワフルではあるものの巻取り速度の遅いこれらのリールを、現代のルアー釣りにおいてどう利用したらいいか、そのアイデアは浮かびませんでした。しかし昨日、ひとつアイデアがひらめいたのです。あの巨大なスピナーを引いてはどうだろうか？ 出張でストックホルムにいた時、パイク／マスキー釣り用の大型スピナーを購入したのです。重たいオモリと組み合わせれば、スピナーを十分遠くに飛ばすことができ、海底まで沈められるかもしれない。そして、クエのような、巨大な根魚を釣ることができるのではないか。そういうアイデアでした。今日の実験の結果、私はこのアイデアに自信を持ちました。）
