The sporadic heavy rain keeps falling in the Chugoku district. Floods and landslip have been reported. Fortunately my neighborhood has been relatively safe. Taking advantage of a break in the weather, I went to Lake Shinji a few times. The lake was swollen, but, to my surprise, the water was not very muddy this morning. The shore was submerged. In the translucent water it looked as if it were a part of an ancient underwater city. I revisited the lake this evening and found things had changed. The strong wind was blowing, and the lake was much choppier. The water got so muddy that the ancient city disappeared without a trace.
(中国地方では、散発的な大雨が続いています。洪水や土砂崩れなどが発生しています。幸いなことに、私の住む地域は比較的安全です。一時的な晴れ間を利用して、何度か宍道湖に行ってみました。湖は増水していたものの、驚いたことに今朝は、水はあまり濁っていませんでした。岸辺が水没していました。半透明の水の中で、それはまるで古代の海底都市の一部のように見えました。夕方、湖を再訪してみると、状況は変わっていました。強い風が吹いていて、湖は波立っています。湖水は濁ってしまい、古代都市は跡形もなく姿を消していました。）
