All of my assignments in this year
seemed finished this morning, and I had time to fish briefly before sunset. So I
drove to Etomo Harbor this afternoon, which is the closest harbor to my place, but changed my mind on the way and headed for Kurauchi Bay between Tayu and
Kataku. The water was as rough as I had expected, and it got whitish along the
shore. This white churning water is called sarashi in Japanese. They say you
have a much greater chance to catch nice Japanese sea bass in or around sarashi, and yes I hooked one with Super Strike Zig Zag!
（私の今年の仕事はどうやら今朝ぜんぶ終了したようで、日没前にちょっとだけ釣りをする時間ができたのでした。なので午後、私の家から一番近い港である恵曇港へ向かったのですが、途中で気が変わり、手結と片句の間にある倉内湾に行きました。湾は予想通りの荒れようで、岸沿いに海水が白っぽくなっています。こんなふうにかき混ぜられた白い水のことを、日本語では「サラシ」と言います。サラシの中、あるいはその周囲では、良い型のスズキが釣れると言われるのですが、まさにその通り、私のスーパーストライク・ジグザグにスズキがかかったのでした！）
The fish looked around 80 cm (31.5 in.) long. Using
the momentum of the strong waves, I successfully landed the fish onto the edge
of the rock on which I was standing, but the hook came out when I was pulling
up the fish with the line. The fact that all of my lures have barbless hooks
might have contributed to this unfortunate event. Miraculously the fish stayed
on the edge of the rock. I was tempted to run down and grab it, but I was also
aware that the strong waves would attack me if I were struggling to hold the
slippery fish. Safety first. I gave up the fish, which was carried away by the
high waves a few seconds later.
