ABU (currently known as Abu Garcia) was a legendary manufacturer of fishing reels in Sweden. All real fishermen must have heard ABU Ambassadors or Cardinals at least once. When I was a boy, ABU reels were out of my reach. They were too expensive. Many years had passed since then, but I felt the same. I knew ABUs were not as expensive as before, but I felt the same when I was a boy. I somehow felt ABU could not be my reel until I found the Abu Garcia Cardinal III S5000 spinning reels on sale at a bargain price. Just 13 dollars!! I bought two of them on impulse, and they became my first ABU reels. I know the current ABU might not be the same as the old ABU. They are now part of Pure Fishing. But ABU is still ABU. I feel even my cheapest Cardinal can easily handle any Japanese sea bass, regardless of its size.
