At 5 a.m. I was the first to arrive at Takashiro-bana
in Kataku. The sea was incredibly calm and stagnant, and the surface was almost complete flat. Another
lure fisherman and a bait fisherman came later, but nobody caught any fish. I
got so bored that I took underwater pictures of floating
jellyfish and some small beautiful fish.

There was not much wind, either. By 8 a.m.
it became uncomfortably hot. So I gave up fishing and went to Kurauchi Bay to
the west of the Kataku hamlet. It was not to fish but to swim. Is it too early
for swimming? I don’t think so. In Brooklyn, New York, I would start swimming
by the end of May. The water at Kurauchi Bay was not cold at all. I swam alone with nobody around. I remember I love swimming as much as fishing.
