Are there any lure fishermen who don’t own any reels at all? I believe you would say, “No,” if you were asked. But, actually there is one here. To be precise, there was one here. And, it’s me. I recently purchased my first “underhead reel,” Ultima XENO, as I reported on my last post. And I parted with my Shimano Spheros SW-A 8000HG reel, which I had highly praised on one of my earlier posts (No. 1456). The Spheros is such a good (and reasonably-priced) reel that I can focus only on throwing and retrieving my lures. It allows me to focus only on how to catch fish. It’s a fully sealed reel, so I don’t need to take apart and service it. It’s such a well-designed reel, and probably that’s why I was getting bored with it gradually. I am a guy who tends to get bored with almost anything sooner or later.

So, when I obtained my Ultima XENO, I sold my Spheros. And, probably you will be surprised here. Because I had sold or given all of my other reels to second-hand tackle shops or my friends who were fishing beginners, my Ultima XENO became my last remaining reel. Unfortunately, it was faulty. I sent an inquiry to its distributer, and they arranged a courier to pick it up at my place for their further investigation. Now my faulty Ultima XENO is packed and waiting for the courier. So I had no reel to use. I cried, “I am a lure fisherman who has no reel! Amazing!” That was, of course, temporary. I went to one of local second-hand tackle shops to buy the Ohmori Mi-Con No.5 reel, a reel I had sold to the shop a year ago. With a cheapest price tag on it, it had been in a wagon for a year. No one wanted the reel. I felt pity. So I rescued it from the wagon, and now I have one decent reel.
