I have been too busy to go fishing for a while. Not only my usual translation assignments but also my new endeavor have taken my free time. I have started a new book club called “Ichikara Issyo Ni Shinsho Wo Yomu Kai,” which can be translated into “A book club where all participants discuss and choose a Shinsho paperback from scratch and then read it together.” A shinsho is a form of Japanese paperback series, typically focusing on non-fiction or academic topics aimed at a general audience, not at experts/specialists. I conceptualized the original idea, talked to the owner of venue (she kindly accepted my proposal), created a few types of fliers, talked to local bookstores and left the fliers there, and, of course, looked for a shinsho that I would bring to the club as a candidate book. The first round of the club is scheduled for April 24th at Awaido in Izumo City. If you are interested, please check the book-club site I created, although it’s in Japanese. Today, I still don't have enough time to go fishing but have an overwhelming urge to cast a lure. So I brought my longest and biggest fishing tackle, the combination of 11’ Lamiglas Insane surf rod and PENN 706Z reel, to Lake Shinji and threw the GT Ice Cream as far as I could.
（釣りに行く時間が、しばらく取れていません。いつもの通訳の仕事だけでなく、新しい取り組みを始めたせいで、時間を取られてしまっているのです。「いちから一緒に新書を読む会」という新しい読書会を始めました。これは、参加者全員が、いちから一緒に新書を選んで、その一冊を読んでいくという読書会です。新書というのは、日本で発行されているペーパーバックの一種であり、ノンフィクションあるいは学術的なテーマを扱うことが多く、専門家ではない一般読者を対象としています。私は、この企画を練り、会場のご店主に話を持ちかけ（彼女は快く受け入れてくれました）、何種類かのチラシを作成し、地元の書店にチラシを置かせてもらい、そしてもちろん、候補の本として読書会に持ち込む新書を探しました。この読書会の第１回が、４月24日に出雲市の「あわい堂」で開かれます。ご興味のある方は、私が作成した読書会のサイトをご覧ください。私は今日も、釣りに行く時間は十分に取れませんでした。でも、どうしてもルアーを投げたくなったので、一番長くて大きなタックル、11フィートのラミグラス・インセイン・サーフロッドとPENN 706Zリールの組み合わせを宍道湖に持って行き、GTアイスクリームを可能な限り遠くまで投げました。）
