As you may know, I enjoyed picking a lot of kakis (Japanese persimmon) this autumn. Picking the tasty fruit using a telescopic fruit picker was so fun that I was made to think how similar the kaki-picking was to fishing (No. 1367). Today, on one of the paths to the shore of Kurauchi Bay, I found an unexpected but reasonable use of the fruit picker: To cut off thorny plants. I have a long history of fighting against thorny plants thriving on paths to fishing spots. Their thorns are so sharp and strong that you might be injured and bleed if touched. So I made a habit of cutting off thorny plants whenever I find them. However, they are like climbing and trailing vines. When I am about to cut its thickest stem with a pair of shears, I often fail to recognize my arms are surrounded with its stalks with sharp thorns. Indeed I can knock out the boss, but I tend to get injured by his or her henchmen. Today, when I was carefully walking on the path to Kurauchi Bay, a wonderful idea occurred to me. “Using my telescopic fruit picker to cut off thorny plants, I can be safely away from the attacks of henchmen.” What a versatile tool my fruit picker is!! I was so absorbed in cutting off thorny plants today that I almost forgot why I was at Kurauchi Bay. I had made a plan to go fishing as often as possible by the end of this year. My last goal in 2025 is to catch a fish on any of my plugs treated with my “One Barbless Single Hook Solution.” I failed to achieve the goal today at Kurauchi Ban and Etomo Harbor.
（ご存知の方もおられるでしょうが、この秋、私は柿狩りを大いに楽しみました。伸縮式の果実取り棒を使って美味しい柿を摘むのは、とても楽しくて、私は柿採りと魚釣りはどれくらい似ているのだろうと考えたほどでした（No. 1367）。今日、倉内湾の岸辺に続く小道に立ち、意外ながらも合理的な果実取り棒の新しい使い方を発見しました。棘のある植物を切るのです。私は、釣り場へ至る小道沿いに生えている棘付き植物と、永らく闘ってきました。彼らの棘は鋭くて強く、触れると怪我をして血が出ることもあるのです。ですので私は、棘のある植物を見つけたら、必ず切るようにしています。しかし、棘のある植物は、まるで蔓のように縦横無尽に伸びるのです。その一番太い茎を今まさに剪定鋏で立ち切ろうとしている私は、自分の腕が、鋭い棘のある他の茎によって包囲されていることに気づかないことがよくあります。私は確かにボスをKOするのものの、その手下たちによって負傷させられてしまうのです。今日、倉内湾への小道を慎重に歩いている時、素晴らしいアイデアが浮かびました。「トゲトゲ植物を切るのに伸縮式の果実取り棒を使えば、手下の攻撃から安全に逃れられる」。私の果実取り棒は、なんて万能な道具なのでしょう！ 私は今日、トゲトゲ植物を退治するのに夢中になり過ぎて、倉内湾にやって来た理由を忘れそうになりました。私は、年末まで、できるだけ頻繁に釣りに行く計画を立てたのです。2025年の最後の目標は、「バーブレスのシングルフックが１つだけ解決法」を施したプラグを使って、魚を釣ることです。今日は倉内湾と恵曇港で、その目標を達成できませんでした。）
