I was curious and also kind of afraid when I was climbing down to the shore of Kurauchi Bay this afternoon. I set up the signboard the other day, hoping the cryptic message on it could keep some fishermen from abandoning puffer fish on land. I was hoping, but at the same time I was afraid the signboard had been ignored and I was going to see dead puffer fish again. So I got relieved when I arrived at the big rock on the shore. I didn’t see any puffer fish. However, when I was about to throw my lure, I found one puffer fish almost hidden in a crack between my feet. Showing no sign of life, the fish looked very dry on the rock. I picked it up. Indeed it’s dry, but, to my surprise, the fish was still moving its fins.
（今日の午後、倉内湾の岸辺に降りていきながら、私は、好奇心と少しの恐怖を感じていました。先日、例の看板を設置したわけです。そこに書かれている謎めいたメッセージのおかげで、釣り人はもうフグを陸に捨てていかなくなるのではないかと、私は期待していました。そう期待はしていましたが、同時に、看板は無視されていて、私はまたもやフグの死骸を見ることになるのではないかと恐れてもいたのです。ですので、岸辺の大きな岩に着いた時、私は安堵しました。フグは一匹も見当たらなかったのです。しかし、ルアーを投げようとしたまさにその時、足元の隙間にフグが一匹潜んでいるのに気づきました。それは岩の上にいて、生きている気配はなく、ひどく乾いているように見えました。私はフグを拾い上げました。確かに乾き切ってはいましたが、驚いたことに、そのフグはまだヒレを動かしているのでした。）
A few seconds after I released the fish to the sea, it became able to swim again. What a tough fish!! I had also noticed pink particles were scattered on the big rock I was standing on. What were those pink stuff? I know what they are, but here I would like to pretend I don’t. Kurauchi Bay seems such a heavenly place that not only puffer fish but also pink snows fall from the sky. I have to be careful when I see pink snows because they could be as slippery as white snows. At Kurauchi Bay no fish responded to my plugs treated with “One Barbless Single Hook Solution,” so I went to Etomo Harbor. Some fishermen had caught young Japanese amberjacks at Etomo. I got encouraged but also discouraged because their catches were as big as my plugs. I went back to Kurauchi Bay. Since I left the bay for Etomo, it seemed neither puffer fish nor pink snows had fallen from the sky.
（海に放すと、数秒後、フグはまた泳ぎ始めました。なんてタフな魚なのでしょう！ そして私は、私が立っている大きな岩の上に、ピンク色の粒子が散らばっているのにも気づいていました。あのピンク色の粒子は、いったい何なのでしょうか？ 私はあれが何なのか知ってはいるのですが、ここでは知らないふりをいたします。どうやら倉内湾は天国のような場所であり、空からフグだけでなくピンクの雪までもが降ってくるようです。ピンクの雪は、白い雪と同じくらい滑りやすくなるので、見かけたら要注意です。さて、倉内湾の魚は「バーブレスのシングルフックが１つだけ解決法」を施したプラグに全く反応しなかったため、私は、恵曇港へ移動しました。恵曇では何人かの釣り人にワカナ（若いブリ）が釣れていました。私は勇気づけられましたが、同時に落胆させられもしました。彼らの釣った魚は、私のプラグと同じくらいの大きさだったのです。私は再び倉内湾へ行きました。恵曇へ向かうために湾を離れてからは、フグも、ピンクの雪も、もう降ってはこなかったようです。）
