This is the first of two posts I write today. 10 years has passed since I first reported about Tondo-san, a new-year festival of Shinto for a good catch of fish, in Tayu (No. 123). Today I visited the small grocery store in Tayu village in order to gather information on the upcoming Tondo-san. I know that the scales of Tondo-san have been diminishing everywhere due to the rapid increase of the aged population in rural areas. I asked the lady in charge of the store if they were going to hold the next year’s Tondo-san, and she said yes with a wonderful smile. Although the scale keeps shrinking, it seems that the villagers are not ready for abandoning the tradition. I would like to recommend you to go to Tayu in the morning on January 3rd and watch the wonderful ritual. After enjoying a nice chat with the lady, I did some fishing around Tayu Harbor. No fish responded to my Super Strike Little Neck Popper treated with my “One Barbless Single Hook Solution,” but I felt very happy when I left Tayu because I knew I would visit Tayu again to watch its Tondo-san. Then I drove to Kurauchi Bay just to check it. Last time I was there I found some puffer fish were abandoned alive. So I just wanted to check it, and what I would see there was not unexpected but still painful. Continued to the second post.
（今日は、２回に分けての投稿となります。これは１つ目の投稿です。正月に行われる大漁祈願の神事「とんどさん」について、私が初めてお伝えしてから10年が経ちました（No. 123）。今日は、来年の「とんどさん」について情報収集するため、手結集落にある小さな商店を訪れました。地方の高齢化が急速に進み、各地で「とんどさん」の規模が縮小していることは承知しています。店番のおばさんに「こんどの正月は、とんどさんはやられますか？」と尋ねると、おばさんは素晴らしい笑顔で「はい」とおっしゃいました。その規模は縮小傾向にあるものの、手結の人々は、この伝統行事をやめてしまうつもりはないようです。１月３日の朝、手結へ足を運んで、この素晴らしい神事をぜひご覧になってくださいと、皆さんにお勧めしたい気分です。お店のおばさんとの会話を楽しんだ後、私は手結港の周辺で釣りをしました。「バーブレスのシングルフックが１つだけ解決法」を施したスーパーストライク・リトルネックポッパーを使いましたが、魚からの反応はありませんでした。でも、手結を去る時の私は、とても幸せな気分でした。なぜなら、「とんどさん」を見学するために、また手結を訪れようと決めていたからです。そして私は、ちょっと様子が見たくて、倉内湾へ向かいました。前回、倉内湾に行った時は、フグが生きたまま放置されていたので、ちょっと様子が見たくなったのです。そして、私が倉内湾で見ることになる光景は、予想外ではなかったものの、それでも胸が痛むものでした。続きは２つ目の投稿で。）
