The Sea of Japan side of the Shimane Peninsula is less developed than the Lake Shinji side. As a fisherman, I love the Sea of Japan as much as Lake Shinji. I would like more people to see the Sea of Japan side. So I do a guided tour for people who are interested in the less populated but probably more mysterious side. Next month I will guide people who work at the Matsue city office. First I will take them to Tayu, one of the tiniest fishing villages in the peninsula, and then, if they want to get a thrill, I will take them to Ikesu in Etomo. In my opinion, Ikesu is one of the most gorgeous and thrilling fishing spots in the area. I used to see some elderly local residents taking care of the path to Ikesu. Unfortunately, I have not seen them for several years. Someone has to maintain the path. Otherwise Ikesu will be inaccessible. So I took on the job, as I had done last year. I started cutting the weeds on the path about 5:30 a.m. I found two bags of road salt in the bush, destroyed a small wasp nest, and tied a red tape to the black pipe that could trip you otherwise. Two hours later I finally reached a point where I could see the beautiful sea, but I got too exhausted. My job is not yet done.
（島根半島の日本海側は、宍道湖側ほど開発されていません。釣り人として私は、宍道湖と同じくらい日本海が大好きです。ですので、もっと多くの人に日本海側を見てもらいたいと思います。そこで私は、人口はより少ないけれども、おそらくはより神秘的である日本海側に興味のある人を対象としたガイドツアーを行っています。来月は、松江市役所で働く人たちをガイドします。まずは、島根半島にある漁村のうち、最も小さな一つである手結へお連れします。そして、もしも彼らがスリルを味わいたかったら、恵曇の生須へもお連れするでしょう。生須は、この地域において最もゴージャス、かつ最もスリリングな釣り場の一つではないかと思います。以前は、地元の年配の方々が生須へ至る小道の整備をしてらっしゃいましたが、残念ながらここ数年、彼らの姿は見かけません。しかし、誰かが道を整備する必要があるのです。さもなければ、生須はアクセス不能になってしまうでしょう。そこでこの私が、昨年と同様、その仕事を引き受けました。午前５時半、小道の草刈りを始めました。藪の中に隠れていた道路用融雪剤２袋を見つけ、スズメバチの小さな巣を駆除し、つまずきやすい黒いパイプに赤いテープを巻き付けました。２時間後、美しい海が見える地点にようやくたどり着いた時、私は疲れ果てていました。でも、まだ仕事は終わっていません。）
