I used to use the Daiwa LEXA-CC 400 low-profile baitcasting reel and loved it. Unlike other LEXA baitcasters, the LEXA-CC has the synchronised levelwind mechanism. Whenever the spool spins, the line guide keeps moving accordingly. In my humble opinion, if a lure is heavy enough, you can throw the lure farther with a synchronised-levelwind baitcaster. So I loved my LEXA-CC 400 more than other “normal” LEXAs I owned. But it has one problem. The gear ratio (6.3:1) is a bit too slow for retrieving my lures comfortably. So I sold it along with my other LEXAs. Recently I purchased a second-hand baitcaster with the synchronised levelwind mechanism. The reason why I decided to try it was that it has a higher gear ratio (7.1:1). It’s the Tailwalk Elan Super Wide Power 71R. Another good point about this reel is that it’s easier to disassemble it. All that you need is a few normal drivers. Although nothing happened to my lures around Ikesu this afternoon, I was very happy with my recent favorite. Tailwalk plans to release reels even with a higher gear ratio (8.1:1). Interesting.
