It is unusual for me to go to Saruwatari in the afternoon. I am a bit scared of the possibility that I may end up walking back in the woods at dusk. The darker it gets, the spookier the path in the woods gets. It is certainly dark in the early morning too, but I know it will be lighter by the minute. On the other hand, it will be darker by the minute in the afternoon. Today, however, it was in the afternoon that I went to Saruwatari. I was a bit surprised to see another fisherman standing at Naka-bana, a spot to the west of Saruwatari. He was a bait fisherman and seemed to catch some fish, but I couldn’t identify the type of fish. I started my fishing about 3 p.m. and finished at 4 p.m. Just one hour. Now you can see how scared I am of the woods.
（私が午後、猿渡に行くのは珍しいのです。夕暮れ時に林の中を歩いて帰る羽目になるかもしれないと思うと、ちょっと怖いのです。暗くなればなるほど、林の中の小道は不気味になります。確かに早朝も暗いわけですが、早朝であれば、分刻みで明るくなっていくのがわかります。午後は逆に、分刻みで暗くなっていくのです。しかし今日は、午後、猿渡に行ってみたのでした。少し驚いたことに、猿渡の西にある中鼻という釣り場に、釣り人が立ってました。彼はエサ釣り師で、魚の種類はわかりませんが、何か釣れているようでした。私は、午後３時頃から釣り始めて、午後４時に納竿しました。たった１時間です。私がいかに林を恐れているか、これでお分かりいただけるでしょう。）
