(No. 124) Japanese Sea Bass at Miyazaki-bana in Kataku (片句の宮崎鼻にてスズキ)

I have once tried to go to Miyazaki-bana in Kataku, but a silent security guard in front of the barbed wire kind of scared me off. The Shimane Nuclear Power Plant is located on the east of Miyazaki-bana. With the help of the useful “Sanin Fishing Spot Guidebook,” I determined to go to the spot this morning. It was so early today that there were no guards. Following the path along the wire, finally I saw the gorgeous view. Then, I encountered a vertical and jagged cliff, the biggest hurdle to get to Honba, the end of Miyazaki-bana, according to the guidebook.

A few pieces of strong rope were hanging on the cliff. You can use them, but still the task is very difficult. After a few failed attempts and after almost giving up climbing, I managed to climb the cliff. Two bait fishermen had come later than I, but they didn’t seem interested in coming to Honba. I was the only one who tried and passed the hurdle, and it was rewarding. When I was retrieving a Super Strike Zig Zag under sarashi (white churning water), a Japanese sea bass ferociously hit the lure. It was a beautiful fat fish of about 60 cm (24 in.) long. When I was leaving the spot around 10 a.m., I briefly talked to the two bait fishermen. They didn’t catch any fish. Today was one of rare days that I was the only one who got all the luck. On my way back to a parking space, I found there were two security guards standing in the distance. I showed off the fish. They smiled back.
