I talked with three bait fishermen who were standing on the north shore of Lake Shinji this morning. Their target was the black porgy, which is increasingly popular as a target fish in the lake. In recent years I see more bait fishermen for the black porgy than lure fishermen for the Japanese sea bass on the shore of the lake. The black porgy seems more predominant than the Japanese sea bass. So I got a bit surprised when one of the bait fishermen told me, "Unlike until yesterday, there is absolutely no fish this morning." He seemed to feel as if something had happened over night and all the black porgies were gone. Instead of the black porgies, the Japanese sea bass came triumphantly back to the lake, and I caught a good one! That's what I wish I could write here, but that's not the case. There seemed nothing in the lake, either the Japanese sea bass or the black porgy.
（今朝、宍道湖の北岸に立っていた３人のエサ釣り師と話をしました。彼らが狙っているのは、宍道湖における対象魚として、ますます人気が高まっている黒鯛（チヌ）です。近年、湖岸では、スズキを狙うルアー釣り師よりも、チヌを狙うエサ釣り師のほうを多く見かけます。チヌの方がスズキより優勢なようなのです。そのため、エサ釣り師の一人が「昨日までと違って、今朝はチヌが全くいない」と言ったときは、少し驚きました。まるで、一晩のうちに何かが起きて、湖からチヌがぜんぶ消えてしまったかのような口ぶりでした。チヌは姿を消してしまいましたが、代わりにスズキが湖に意気揚々と凱旋しており、私に、良い型のスズキが１匹釣れました！ と、ここに書ければ良かったのですが、そんなことは起きませんでした。湖にはスズキもチヌも全くいないようでした。）
