(No. 372) Japanese Sea Bass at Lake Shinji (宍道湖にてスズキ)

I might have been luckier than before since one of the schoolchildren screamed at me not to give up. I went to Lake Shinji about 6:30 p.m. this evening. There was one of the regulars to the lakeside, and he called it a day before I made my first few casts. He said to me the lake had been quiet, as is often the case these days. After having a brief chat with me, he was gone. However, at my third or fourth cast after he left, something hit my Guppy Lure’s 2 oz. Mini in the distance. The fish was powerful although it didn’t feel very heavy. What I landed was a beautiful Japanese sea bass of 66 cm (26 in.) long. Since this season began I have caught a total of three Japanese sea bass at the lake, and it was the second fish I caught on the pencil popper. The lure looks worn-out due to rough use, but it is as effective as it was when it was brand-new.
