The sea was beautiful and very quiet this morning. There were baitfish around Saruwatari, one of the most productive spots along the shore of the Shimane Peninsula, but there seemed no predatory fish intimidating them. The small fish swam peacefully. I had not been to the northern shore of the peninsula for some time. I had been only to Lake Shinji last month, which is just a few minutes away from my place on foot. I almost forgot how tough it could be to get down to and come back from the rocky shore facing the Sea of Japan. I got more exhausted than I had expected when I returned to the parking spot.
（今朝の海は、美しく、とても静かでした。島根半島の沿岸有数の釣り場の一つ、猿渡の周辺にはベイトフィッシュ（大きな魚の餌となる小魚）の姿こそあったものの、彼らを脅かす肉食魚はいないようでした。小魚たちは平穏に泳いでいました。私は、島根半島の北岸には、ここしばらく出かけていませんでした。先月は宍道湖にのみ通ったのですが、この湖は、我が家からは徒歩で数分の距離なのです。日本海に面する磯まで下りていき、そして戻ってくるのがどれだけ大変か、私はほとんど忘れてしまっていました。駐車場に戻ってきた時の私は、予想以上に疲労困憊していました。）
