(No. 190) Hong Kong Grouper at Takanishi in Tayu (手結の高西にてキジハタ)

I visited again Takanishi in Tayu this morning. Two days ago, Shun-san, one of my fishing buddies, took me to the spot and also infused me with his wonderful 70% theory, which means that you can catch a yellowtail amberjack at Takanishi seven times out of ten. According to his theory, the odds that I would catch the fish today must have increased to 78%. I had been there two days ago and no yellowtail amberjack had been caught. So the odds must have become “seven times out of nine” (78%) today, and actually the condition of the water looked better than the last time. Unlike the day before yesterday, the current was slowly moving with a light swell.

I used a pencil popper first, and then used another topwater plug, a darter plug, and the pencil popper. Although the odds were almost 80%, no yellowtail amberjack hit my lures. Being a bit bored, I took out Tsunami Ball Jig for a change. I let it sink to the bottom and lifted it up a bit, and then let it sink and lifted it up again. When I kept repeating this method, something hit my jig at the bottom. The water was considerably deep. So I had to take advantage of my reel with two handles. When my one arm got too tired to turn one handle, I switched to the other arm to turn the other handle. Thanks to my double-handled reel, I lifted the fish to the surface with unbelievably greater ease. Of course I am exaggerating (lol). The fish I caught was a beautiful Hong Kong grouper of 33 cm (13 in.) long.
