I have been to the Ketakake Peninsula in
Izumo City four times in six weeks since March 24. Is it too many? Maybe. Trekking up and down through the
mountain is not easy but considerably exhausting. In addition, I have not
caught any fish so far. There has been no bite at all. So why do I keep coming
back? I am not sure, but at least it is a good exercise, and the scenery never
fails to impress me.
（３月24日からの６週間で、私は４回も出雲市の桁掛半島に行っています。回数が多過ぎるでしょうか？ そうかもしれません。山道の登り降りは容易ではなく、かなり疲れます。それに加え、これまでのところ私にはどんな魚も釣れていません。バイトも全くありません。それなのに、なぜ私は半島に通い続けているのでしょう？ よく分かりませんが、少なくとも良い運動になりますし、そして風景は、いつでも印象的です。）
Today I was
with a friend of mine from Yonago City in Tottori Prefecture. We started
fishing shortly after 6 a.m. around Ji-no-kujira, and ended it
at 10:30 a.m. There was a strong bite for him once, but we did not catch any
fish. It was the first time that he had tried this gorgeous peninsula. I had
warned him in advance that it would be exhausting. He told me it was more than
he had expected, but he also said that it was one of the best trips he took for
fishing. The Ketakake Peninsula seems to have almost
unreasonable appeal.
（今日の私は、鳥取県米子市から来た知人と一緒でした。「地の鯨」という場所の周辺で、午前６時ちょっと過ぎから釣り始め、10時30分に納竿しました。彼にいちど強いバイトがありましたが、私たちはノーフィッシュに終わりました。とても美しいこの半島を試すのは、彼にとっては初めてです。「すごく疲れることになるよ」と、前もって私は警告しておきました。彼は「予測していた以上に疲れた」と言いましたが、同時に「これまでで最高の釣り旅行の一つだ」とも言いました。桁掛半島には、ほとんど理不尽な魅力があるようです。）

Ichiさん、昨日は体調が万全でないまま山を昇り降りし、釣り場ではけっこう長時間、粘りましたからね。

かく言う私も、昨日のIchiさんの釣り方をヒントにして、なんとしても桁掛で１匹釣りたくて、
明日の朝、また行ってしまいそうな.....。
