This afternoon I met two fishermen at Lake Shinji. They said they came from Tokyo. They seemed avid lure fishermen but did not know about the so-called “Konoshiro-pattern” in Lake Shinji. In general, some fishermen don’t like to give any tips to other fishermen. I am not one of them. If I think I know a tip to catch fish or a good place to try, I cannot keep it to myself. So I provided them with all the information I know about the “Konoshiro-pattern” before I left the spot.
（今日の午後、宍道湖で２人の釣り人に出会いました。東京から来られたそうです。熱心なルアー釣り師のようでしたが、宍道湖のいわゆる「コノシロ・パターン」についてはご存知ありませんでした。一般的に言って、魚を釣るための秘訣を、他の釣り人に教えたがらない釣り人がいます。私はそういう釣り人ではありません。魚を釣る秘訣や良い釣り場を知っていると思える時、私はそれを秘密にできないのです。そのため私は、釣り場を離れる前に、「コノシロ・パターン」について私が知る全情報を、彼らに伝えてしまったのでした。）
After I finished some work at my place, I came back to the spot. The water was very muddy today in the lake probably due to the strong wind. Only around a water gate was the water cleaner. Fresh water was discharged into the brackish lake. Just after the two lure fishermen from Tokyo left me at the spot, I caught a big needlefish. As far as I remember, it was the first fish that I had caught on the Roberts Ranger. I believe this lure is one of the most simple topwater lures in the world and looks very different from most of Japanese lures. Isn’t it amazing?
（自宅で仕事を終えてから、私は釣り場に戻りました。今日の宍道湖は、おそらく強風のせいで、かなり水が濁っています。水がきれいだったのは、水門の周辺だけでした。水門からは真水が放出され、汽水湖である宍道湖に流れ込んでいたのです。東京からお越しの釣り人が去られた直後、大きなダツが釣れました。憶えている限り、ロバーツ・レンジャーで釣れた最初の魚です。このルアーは、世界で最もシンプルなトップウォーター・ルアーの一つだと思いますし、日本のほとんどのルアーとはまったく異なる見た目をしています。凄くないですか？）
