I went to Nazuna in Kataku this evening.
The path leading to the shore is in a grove and considerably higher than sea
level. Views from the path are a bit scary but gorgeous. The water was churning
with a steady current. It looked promising but there was one bait fisherman for the largescale blackfish and he said to
me, “What are you trying to catch? Yellowtail amberjack? Japanese amberjack? Not
good now.” It didn’t take very long to know he was right.
（夕方、片句のナズナに行ったのでした。海岸へと続く小道は、木立の中にあり、海面からはかなりの高さです。ちょっと怖いけど、でもすごく美しい、小道からの眺めです。着実に潮は動いており、海水がかき混ぜられています。期待できそうでしたが、メジナを狙うエサ釣りの男性が一人おられ、私に言うのでした。「なに狙われてますね？ ヒラマサですかね？ ワラサ？ あんま良くないですわ」。彼が正しいことを知るのに時間はかかりませんでした。）
When I was going back to my car, a
local lady walking a dog asked me if I caught any fish. “No fish, ma’am,” I
said. The sweet lady consoled me. “These days most people don’t catch any fish.
No fish is a normal state now. Don’t get too disappointed.” My disappointment
was instantly gone and I was trying to catch Japanese sea bass at the mouth of Sada River in Etomo Harbor. Unfortunately
no fish again, but my disappointment didn’t come back.
（駐車した場所に戻っていく私に、犬を散歩させている地元の女性が、何か釣れたのかと聞くのでした。「何も釣れませんでした」と私は答えました。すると、この優しい女性は、私を励ましてくれるのでした。「釣れたという話は聞きませんけん。人並みですけん。どうか気を落とされないように」。気落ちは一瞬にして消え、私は、恵曇港の佐陀川河口でスズキを狙っているのでした。残念ながら、またもや釣果はなし。でも、私の気落ちが戻ってくることは、もうありませんでした。）
