After living in the United States for 15 years, I came back to my hometown Matsue, a small city in the western part of Japan, in November 2014. I imposed a simple rule on myself. Use only American saltwater lures for at least one year and report what they catch...... When a year had passed since then, I decided not to lift this ridiculous restriction.

(No. 24) No Fish at Kaka and Sanami Harbor

I was at Kaka, a beautiful coastal area in the Shimane Peninsula. After quickly giving up the rocky beach in front of a free parking lot, which I tried once before, I looked for a new place to fish by car. Slowly moving forward on the narrow street in the mountains, I got to a quiet cove (later I found it is Sanami Harbor). Standing on a tetrapod, I made several casts, but no fish.
Then, I drove my car again to look for another place. One of villagers followed and talked to me when I was walking down to a new beach after leaving my car. He told me that a group of thieves had appeared. Patrolling the area, at first he seemed to suspect I was one of them, but he could tell at a glance that I was not. My getup was nothing but an avid and pitiful fisherman’s. A beautiful beach invites many people including thieves.
