The kaki (Japanese persimmon) fever came back, and I have not been able to go fishing for a while. Recently I bought a telescopic fruit picker, and it was amazing. Tasty kakis which I had believed were unreachable suddenly became reachable. So, instead of going fishing, I have been visiting Daiouji Temple, which is in my neighborhood and famous as a site of one of Lafcadio Hearn’s ghost stories. There is a kaki tree in the precincts of the temple, and the tree has an unusual number of kakis this year. The chief priest of the temple allowed me to collect them. I try to collect as many as possible in order to distribute them to not only familiar people in my neighborhood but also unfamiliar people whom I might encounter in unfamiliar neighborhoods. Today I carried some of the kakis to one of my aunts who lives near Lake Nakaumi. Taking advantage of the trip to her place, I threw lures from the shores of Iu River and Lake Nakaumi just several times each. No fish responded (only red stingrays were active), but I was impressed again with the new nylon line called “Gaim,” which I had reported on one of my earlier posts (No. 1364). Seriously, I feel I won't need the braided line anymore.
（柿ブームが復活してしまい、しばらく釣りに行けていません。先日、伸縮式の果実取り棒を買ったのですが、これがまた素晴らしいものなのです。今まで手が届かないと思っていた美味しい柿が、突然、手が届くところにあるのでした。そのため私は、釣りには行かずに、ラフカディオ・ハーン（小泉八雲）の怪談の舞台としても有名な、近所にあるお寺、大雄寺（だいおうじ）に足を運んでいます。境内に柿の木があるのですが、今年は、普通ではない数の実がなっているのです。私は住職に許可をいただいて、収穫させてもらうことになりました。近所に住んでいる馴染みの人だけでなく、知らない場所で出会うかもしれない知らない人にも分けてあげたいので、なるべく多くの柿を取るようにしています。今日は、中海の近くに住んでいる叔母の家に柿を届けました。叔母の家への道すがら、意宇川と中海の岸辺から、それぞれ数回ずつルアーを投げてみました。魚の反応はありませんでしたが（活性が高かったのはアカエイだけ）、以前の投稿（No. 1364）で紹介した「ガイム」という新しいナイロンラインに改めて感動しました。正直、私にはもうPEラインは必要ないんじゃないかと思っています。）
