As I reported on my last post (No. 1361), now my plugs have only one barbless single hook. In general, plugs have two or sometimes three treble hooks, and I have not liked multiple treble hooks being attached to a plug very much. Inspired by “The One Hook Solution,” which has been advocated by Mr. Dave Anderson & Mr. Jerry Audet, I made up my own “One Barbless Single Hook Solution” and applied it to all of my plugs. I have been doing a series of swim tests of those modified plugs. Yesterday I tried a Guppy pencil popper, Super Strike Zig Zag, and CCW’s Classic Danny at Lake Shinji (brackish water). This morning I tried a Super Strike Little Neck Popper, Super Strike Zig Zag, and CCW’s Classic Danny at Etomo Harbor (saltwater).

All of them swam very well, at least from my point of view, either in brackish or marine waters. While trying those modified plugs, I was thinking other potential merits of “One Barbless Single Hook Solution.” First, the possibility of unexpectedly catching small fragile fish could be smaller. A single hook is much bigger than a treble hook when their weights are equal. Only a fish of a certain size and strength should be able to bite my single hook. Secondly, my preparation time for fishing is shortened because I have to sharpen only one hook per plug. I used to hone at least six points of hooks per plug and hated it.
