I started this blog more than 10 years ago. Since then I have used only American saltwater lures. I am satisfied with using only American lures. I rarely wonder how effective they actually are in catching Japanese fish. However, I occasionally realize that I have not caught as many fish as I expected when I started this blog. Then I sometimes wonder whether I would have caught more fish if I had lived in the Pacific Ocean side of Japan.

Japan and the U.S. share many things. The biggest thing they share is probably the Pacific Ocean. Like most professional sports teams, American saltwater lures might work better in their home ground (the Pacific Ocean) than in the Sea of Japan, which my hometown Matsue faces. So I decided to do the experiment. A friend of mine who used to live in Matsue lives now in Wakayama Prefecture, which faces the Pacific Ocean. So I planned to take a trip to Wakayama this weekend. It would take several hours by car. I was looking forward to seeing her again and doing fishing together, but I had to cancel the trip because a thundershower was expected over there this weekend. In order to console myself, I went fishing this afternoon. I tried my luck at Mitsu Harbor, Kurauchi Bay, and Etomo Harbor, all of which face the Sea of Japan. Nothing happened. I would like to have a dream about the Pacific Ocean tonight.
（日本とアメリカは多くのものを共有していますが、その中でも最大のものが、おそらく太平洋でしょう。プロスポーツチームの多くがそうであるように、アメリカのソルトルアーも、ホームグラウンド（つまり太平洋）の方が、私の故郷である松江市が面している日本海よりも効果的なのかもしれません。そこで、実験してみることにしました。かつて松江市に住んでいたものの、今は太平洋に面した和歌山県に住んでいる友人がいるのです。私は今週末、和歌山県へ出かけることにしました。車で数時間の旅です。彼女と再会して、一緒に釣りをするのを楽しみにしていたのですが、この旅行はキャンセルせざるを得ませんでした。この週末は雷雨になるとの予報が出たからです。今日の午後は、そんな自分を慰めるため、釣りに出かけました。御津港、倉内湾、そして恵曇港という、日本海に面している釣り場で運試しをしました。何も起きませんでした。今夜は太平洋の夢を見たいと思います。）
