I did it again… I have two bad habits. I cannot help buying an interesting second-hand reel, if it’s reasonably priced. That’s my first habit, and my most recent purchase was Okuma METALOID 5NII, a small lever drag reel with 2 speeds. Because I got this METALOID, now I am in the process of parting with my Accurate Boss 270 reel. That’s my second habit. Whenever I get one reel, I want to leave another. I don’t like owing many things (The only reel outside this pattern is the PENN 706Z spinning reel). It’s not that I don’t like my Boss 270. It’s a good solid reel. It’s so solid that I feel as if it were constructed with outer-space metal, such as Vibranium.

I love my Boss 270 as such a powerful machine. But I cannot throw a lure on it without worrying about backlash. It’s not built for a poor caster like me. So my Boss 270 is up at the biggest Japanese auction site. If interested, please check it out. I have serviced it with a few new parts, so the reel works fine. I went to Etomo Harbor this morning with my METALOID 5NII after I said my final good-bye to my Boss 270 and put it in a cardboard box. I used to own the Okuma CAVALLA 5N-II, which seems a successor to the METALOID, and I loved it. I was sure that I would love my METALOID too because I am not able to find any significant differences between them, and I was right. Unlike the Boss 270, my METALOID is kind to a bad caster like me.
